hey thats great you've got Devi coming (Im guessing you wont be here while we're hosting Nina that very weekend :P )

I think with your certifications and training it does become more of a personal goal, to aid you as a dancer - which then has the knock-on effect of you as a teacher. Having done Collective Soul 1 I know I'm now ruined for the workshop experience, if you get the chance to do that intense study with your teacher I say go for it!

An interesting quandry you raise - having to unlearn what you know, I find this sometimes when girls join me who are already on their dance journey, even with our own dance and the recent fine-tuning....the exciting thing is this dance grows, it breathes, its not static. If we accept that sometimes - our dance changes, that is easier than trying to beat yourself up for not being perfect! That stubborn feeling to want to retain what you know, what is safe, its weird too, but our teachers I guess have tried the best they could, I dont think they did mean to mislead....:)

OK I'm going to give you my version of Facebook/Tribe/Myspace as I use all three to network and keep in touch.

Tribe as you know offers a very unstable forum where we can see who's talking, its all kind of public and out there. I agree, there is a huge wealth of info but the whole "tribe is being maintained thing"....also its not very popular.

Facebook - well, on Tribe we have our profile too, so its about news and photos. But Facebook is taking off in huge leaps of popularity, yes it has some really annoying applications but there is the forums there too. I actually have a facebook group for my students, which gives them the chance to respond and discuss things in a public space...organise extra dance class or particular things like that. When I email my student list I DONT show everyones address so facebook gives them that chance to do that (cause lets face it no one knows about tribe.net)
Before I went to Adelaide I was talking to the Adelaide dancers on facebook and organising catchups and all sorts....it seems to be the most popular forum right now. Its also very easy to share links = youtube, videos, etc with your network and have people of all sorts join in on the discussion.

Myspace is definitely more private, the chat that we see on facebook is more hidden. Its a different network but I use it, cause there are some that still dont use tribe or fb.

I agree the forums are quiet. In my opinion.....everyone's moved to facebook! seriously. but there still arent the big chats we used to see, part of that I guess is the big voices arent online so much.....or people dont use these sites as they become more busy in their own lives etc? Maybe people arent in the grips of it like they used to? I dont know....I miss them too! Its a bit like they've gone underground isnt it....but I still keep up with my regular peeps, but thats probably in email rather than in private space hey

so you coming for feast lovey?

Thanks Shar. Am a bit scared to jump in - just another distraction. But I will give consideration soon.

Hi Susan, Facebook is great it is far easier to connect and contact people. Only the people you select can see your profile and you can also do live chat when they are on there. I find it much easir and quicker to keep in contact than tribe.
Give it a go I was a bit funny about it at first too but now I love it its great. Hope to see you there.x

Hi Dee

Just did Devi Mamak's workshop in the Mountains. Next big thing for us is for Devi to present the 2 day workshop in Newcastle (4 & 5 April). We seem to have some keen ladies dancing at the moment which keeps me going ..... As for ATS, it is still only little me keeping it going by teaching. Been working on that now since 2005. I just wanna dance with others - that keeps me keeping on. Plus also the benefit of connecting with other tribal dancers who are soooo supportive of each other.

Been seriously thinking of doing the Teacher Training with CArolena at the end of the year. I ask myself what is my motivation if ATS isn't exactly a big thing in Newcaslte, and find my answer is "I am working towards that Teacher Training as a personal achievement - whatever comes of it will be a bonus".

It is amazing to see how we progress with out teaching, the more workshops we do. I am undoing some things I taught years ago. Having to unlearn stuff I was taught ... very interesting times.

Dee, I just can't face Facebook. Everyone is talking about it. Could Tribenet be described where individuals with particular interests can join a discussion group, while Facebook is more "Here is my news and my photos?" So if I want to connect with other ATS dancers and teachers on Facebook, I have to post something on Facebook about me and see who visits, or I could search for other tribal dancers? How does it work, Dee? Tribe dancing posts seem to be quiet in the USA too, but it is so so so quiet here in Australia. Where did everyone go?

Cheers, Susan

Good morning all

(hi Susan!!)

yep I agree, tribe's been a bit quiet - i've moved mainly to facebook these days actually.

Whats news in your woods girls?

I've been mega inspired from going to Adelaide, doing CS1 with Paulette and the workshops, dancing with the ladies there and just being so impressed by the calibre of talent....came back like a big gust of wind and finetuning and sharing the new moves with the blossoms. I love that part of the process means I've been "unlocking" some of our dance, taking out some of the rules we'd set down to widen our dance vocab. I'm so motivated by my new students this year, its funny what a new face in the room brings....but you know we're midway through term 1 so I know that some wont be back next term, as is typical of some ladies who only join us for a little while. We're starting to plan for Feast, and all the things to help get us there - including doing some community performances that help ease the performance nerves.

Please share what you've been up to!
