hey everyone
I remember how I used to talk with one of my friends about this awesome thing we both wished would happen - take everything, whatever money, whatever excuses out of the way - imagine if once every now and then everyone in the tribal community would just hear the call to dance and catch a plane/train/bus whatever and gather at a particular location for dance.....just a day or a weekend where we all could share together, grab our drums and dance with THAT girl from over there etc...your post Susan reminded me of that (part of why going to toowoomba is really special for me as we dont get that feeling a lot ourselves to just jam with other groups) .
How far would you travel? seriously if we could find a meeting point what would you do to get there, to experience that awesome feeling of being able to dance with another tribe....I hope we'll experience this at tribal trance fest with Debs plans to do the tribal jam but aside from that - would you be keen to pack the girls and head off for a road trip?

Re: i had a dream once.....talking about roving jams
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 8:38 PMWell, ..... do you really mean, money and other commitments aside??? ... I'd love Bellingen (kinda half way between Bris/Gold Coast and Syd/Newcastle), or there is a great old hotel in Urunga with accommodation. My motorcycling friends and family have stayed there.
There is no camp ground in Bellingen, but you can camp at the showground.
Bamedam sounds pretty good in the Numinbah Valley (in the hinterland behind the Gold/Tweed Coast).
What about at a health retreat where we can do yoga and eat yummy stuff, have classes, then eat more yummy food, have a nap, then a easy bush walk, then a big dance/drum jam, some more food (and alcohol), more dancing and bazaar shopping - then to bed - and do that 3 days in a row. - Pick up camp then ... hey wait a bit ...
Announcing The Travelling Tribal Jam Busters!!!! - a traveling group of musicians, dancers and teachers, roam around Australia to teach, jam and socialise with other tribal nuts. Of course the fans and participants would have to give alms to the Travelling Tribal Jam Busters to help fund this folly. One of the things the TTJB does is to enable smaller groups who feel isolated to link with other smaller groups who feel isolated and then they become part of the Travelling Tribal Jam Busters, and then we could have a lineage thing going.
Then one day someone will write a book about the development of this curious cultural change in Australia, and teachers will dedicate their productions (books, DVD's etc) to the early tribes and teachers in Australia.
Who knows, one day we may become extinct and they will produce documentaries about the curious sub-culture of tribal dancers ....

Re: i had a dream once.....talking about roving jams
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 12:12 AMSusan.....when did you take up residence in my head? I think the travelling triballys is a brilliant idea!
They could kinda 'pick up' and swap members who were able to go on particular legs of their tour....so its an ever evolving, ever changing beautiful mesmerising beast.
Yay! -

Re: i had a dream once.....talking about roving jams
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 4:58 AMSuits me to a tee!!!
I'm not sure if we could get many of the UQs to join in, but with enough notice (it that money, time and work roster thing again) maybe we could do it.
Dee you know that I'm more than happy to go anywhere for a dance.
How about we also add a tribal trash and treasure swap/sale as well. I have a room full of stuff I've acquired and really could stand to offload some of the things I no longer use. Anyone else have that problem? I just can't help collecting pretty tribal things.
My next tribal travel is back to Mali - but their idea of tribal is every so slightly different to ours. I am trying to organise a workshop there (with a Bambara translator) if I can get my friend to generate enough interest and some traditional dance classes for me.
BTW is anyone else doing the August training with Carolena?

Re: i had a dream once.....talking about roving jams
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 5:13 AMHi Annette
good to hear from you on tribe. It is great to hear some others are coming on board with Dee's idea.
We could have spot fires all around Australia (no pun intended, Annette), what I mean is tribal jams spontaneously happening!
Thanks to Devi and Deb (and their teams) for all their hard work with T & T Festivals. I do realise that nothing just happens - some people do the hard yards to make it happen. Again, thanks.
Cheers, Susan -

Re: i had a dream once.....talking about roving jams
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 7:34 PMOoooooh now if you add fire into it (spot or any other kind) you've got me. Perhaps we could have a spin as well. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: i had a dream once.....talking about roving jams
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 3:16 PMHey Dee, one of my tribal mates had given some more thought to the roving jams idea. She is in the US at the moment so am missing her being around. When she gets back, if she is not too pooped, we might talk about her idea.
Here I go again, jumping in feet first ... just can't let this tribal jam thing rest a bit. My poor brain gets so tired.
Last Saturday night I also heard a whisper that Tribal Jewells in Wollongong might be having Saturday tribal jams. Well, it was a bit more than a whisper ...
Cheers, Susan
